New multi-sport hard courts, designed with resident input, are being built at Winnererremy Bay Park to improve recreational facilities for the Mona Vale community.
Construction Schedule and Funding

Work on the new hard courts at the Winnererremy Bay Park began recently. Northern Beaches Council anticipates the project will be finished by the end of June 2025, although completion is dependent on weather conditions.
Construction officially commenced in March. The NSW government and council jointly funded this local infrastructure upgrade.
Community Feedback Drives Changes
The final design of the courts reflects suggestions gathered from the local community. The council sought feedback on initial concepts between 2 February and 1 March 2024, hearing from 237 people. Based on this input, plans were refined to meet community needs and address concerns.
Notably, a proposed bike path around the court perimeter was removed from the final plans due to concerns about pedestrian and cyclist safety near the playing area.
The original proposal also included features like new seating overlooking the courts and park and the preservation of open grass areas featuring new shade trees for passive recreation.
New Facilities for Multiple Sports

Based on feedback, the final court design includes line markings for pickleball to increase the space’s flexibility.
The facilities are intended to accommodate a variety of sports, providing residents with purpose-built areas for basketball, netball, handball, and the increasingly popular pickleball. The design incorporates regulation-size keys and three-point lines suitable for basketball.
Supporting Local Recreation Goals
This project forms part of the Council’s wider strategic plan for community spaces, the Let’s Play! Open Space and Outdoor Recreation Strategy. A key goal of this strategy is to invest in local infrastructure that creates lively and welcoming spaces for everyone in the community.
Identifying improvements for Mona Vale, including the potential for new basketball facilities, was highlighted as an action within this strategy, which aims to promote active lifestyles. Further information can be found on the Northern Beaches Council Your Say webpage.
