Mona Vale Beach has come under community scrutiny after a young woman was found dead along its shoreline, raising immediate concern about safety at the popular Northern Beaches location.
Community Alarm Over Late-Night Activity
The body was discovered just before 6:00 am on Thursday, 23 October 2025, prompting a major police response as parts of the beach and nearby car park were immediately closed while authorities examined the scene.

Police later confirmed it was a self-harm incident and not suspicious. The beach and car park were closed for several hours as investigators searched a vehicle and gathered CCTV footage from nearby homes. Residents have raised concerns about overnight activity around the new amenities block, which locals say attracts vehicle campers using the hot-water showers.
Popular Location For Early Swimmers
Mona Vale Beach is known for its flat and calm conditions at first light, making it a preferred site among older residents and dawn swimmers. Regulars said the area is usually peaceful, and the discovery has prompted conversations about lighting and early morning visibility. Many pointed out that parts of the car park and facilities are poorly visible in low-light conditions.

The absence of strong lighting has raised concerns among early risers, who describe feeling uneasy passing through the area in darkness before sunrise. Some residents said the location has recently seen groups of unfamiliar men lingering near the facilities late at night.
Police Conclude No Threat To The Public
Despite speculation among beachgoers who witnessed the response, police confirmed the death was self-harm and not suspicious.

Authorities searched a silver station wagon with provisional plates at the scene and collected brown paper evidence bags before leaving. CCTV from nearby homes is expected to support the final report, which will be prepared for the coroner.
Community Calls For Preventative Action
While acknowledging the official findings, residents said the event highlights a broader concern around safety planning at the beach. The discussion has broadened to general safety at the site, including lighting and night-time activity.
Residents point to lighting, visibility, and overnight presence around the amenities area. Community members want the beach to remain accessible while authorities consider measures that improve safety before dawn.
