Elly Ings, a 14-year-old from Mona Vale, has been announced as a finalist in the NSW Women of the Year Awards 2026, recognised for her ongoing work supporting Aboriginal education within her school community.

Mona Vale’s Elly Ings has been recognised for sustained efforts to strengthen First Nations perspectives within her school environment.
Her involvement includes coordinating camps and educational expeditions to culturally significant and educational locations, including Taronga Zoo. These activities support student learning that connects culture, land and community, with a focus on understanding Aboriginal knowledge and perspectives through direct experience.
In addition, Elly coordinates school-wide activities linked to key cultural events, ensuring First Nations voices and traditions are acknowledged in a respectful and consistent way. Her work centres on developing programs intended to deliver lasting educational value within the school community.

Awards Program Overview
The NSW Women of the Year Awards are now in their 14th year and recognise women and girls across New South Wales for leadership, resilience and contribution to their communities.
A total of 31 finalists were announced on Wednesday 4 February 2026 across multiple award categories.
The Ones to Watch Category
Elly was selected as a finalist in The Ones to Watch category, which recognises girls aged seven to 15 who demonstrate acts of courage, determination, strength or kindness that support others.
The category showcases up to 10 young finalists from across the state, each recognised and profiled as part of the 2026 awards program.
What Happens Next
Winners across all categories will be announced at an awards ceremony scheduled for Thursday 5 March at the International Convention Centre in Sydney. The event forms part of NSW Women’s Week 2026, running from Monday 2 March to Sunday 8 March.
The ceremony will be livestreamed, allowing the broader community to follow the announcement of recipients.
