Residents in Mona Vale are being offered a free and safe way to dispose of household chemicals through a coordinated collection event by the NSW EPA and NBC.
Free Chemical Disposal Returns to Mona Vale
A community chemical collection will take place in Mona Vale as part of a statewide program encouraging safe household waste disposal. The initiative, organised by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) in collaboration with NBC, allows residents to drop off unwanted chemicals for free at a designated site.
The event will be held on Saturday, 28 June and Sunday, 29 June at the Mona Vale Beach car park on Surfview Road, with collection hours scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day.

Background on the CleanOut Program
The Household Chemical CleanOut program operates across New South Wales as a recurring service, offering residents designated opportunities to discard hazardous materials. The program aims to prevent harm to both people and the environment by ensuring chemicals are managed and disposed of properly.
What Can Be Dropped Off
Residents can bring a wide range of items in household quantities up to 20 kilograms or 20 litres per type. These include solvents, cleaning products, garden chemicals, pool treatments, motor oils and fuels, paints, smoke detectors, and batteries. Vapes have also been added as a new accepted item.
Trade painters are permitted to dispose of up to 100 litres of paint in 20-litre containers. However, the event does not accept commercial or industrial quantities.

Transport and Safety Guidelines
Participants are advised to take precautions when storing and transporting chemicals. Containers should be clearly labelled, sealed, and, where possible, kept in their original packaging. Liquids must be wrapped in newspaper and stored in sturdy plastic to prevent leaks.
Chemicals should be transported in a vehicle’s boot, separate from passengers. Upon arrival at the venue, drivers must remain inside their vehicles while contractors handle the collection.
Program Eligibility
The CleanOut program is open to all residents of New South Wales, with no restrictions for those attending the Mona Vale event. It is part of a broader effort by the EPA to manage household chemical waste through scheduled local events.
Looking Ahead
The chemical collection in Mona Vale offers a straightforward and secure way for households to reduce environmental hazards and manage unwanted substances responsibly. Further information, including event details and handling guidelines, is available on the NSW EPA website.
