Mona Vale Intersection Collision Brings Traffic to a Standstill

A collision between two vehicles brought traffic to a standstill at a busy Mona Vale intersection this morning, with an elderly motorist requiring hospital treatment.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Barrenjoey Road and Darley Street just before 11.45am on Thursday, 19 February, following reports of a crash involving two vehicles.

A Fire and Rescue NSW crew, which happened to be conducting driver training nearby, arrived first at the scene. They found a silver 2019 Subaru Forester had mounted the footpath and come to rest in bushes on the corner outside Ann Wilson Funerals.

The Subaru is believed to have collided with the rear of another vehicle, understood to be a tradesperson’s utility, before leaving the road.

The driver of the Subaru, a man in his 80s, was helped from his vehicle by emergency responders. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him for minor facial injuries, which appeared to have been caused by the vehicle’s airbags deploying during the impact.

He was transported to Northern Beaches Hospital in a stable condition. The driver of the second vehicle, a man in his 60s, received treatment at the scene for a minor leg injury but did not require hospitalisation.

NSW Police, firefighters from Mona Vale Station, and ambulance crews all attended the incident. Firefighters worked to clear debris from the roadway while tow trucks were called to remove both damaged vehicles.

The collision significantly disrupted traffic flow through the area. Motorists travelling north on Barrenjoey Road and those heading east from the industrial precinct on Darley Street faced substantial delays until the vehicles were towed away shortly before 12.30pm.

The cause of the collision has not been disclosed.
