Community feedback is already shaping the Mona Vale Road West upgrade between Terrey Hills and Ingleside, with revised plans for local road access, bus stops, walking and cycling links and wildlife crossings now open for further comment as procurement progresses.
Mona Vale Road West Changes Local Access
The project would widen Mona Vale Road from two lanes to four lanes between McCarrs Creek Road in Terrey Hills and Powderworks Road in Ingleside, adding a central concrete safety barrier while increasing capacity along the corridor.
The revised design responds to earlier feedback about local road connections, intersection safety, surrounding bushland, public transport and walking and cycling options. It also seeks to reduce impacts on private properties, including proposed educational facilities and sportsgrounds.
At McCarrs Creek Road, the intersection would be moved east and upgraded with traffic signals and a roundabout to improve safety, increase capacity and reduce delays.
Kimbriki Road would also gain a signalised intersection, additional dedicated turning lanes and a truck climbing lane.
Tumburra, Wirreanda And Addison Roads Face Changes
Changes around Tumburra Street, Wirreanda Road and Addison Road would alter how local traffic reaches Mona Vale Road.
The Tumburra Street intersection would move about 40 metres west and be reconfigured for left-turn entry and exit only.
A new local road would connect Addison Road with Tumburra Street, while the existing direct connection between Addison Road and Mona Vale Road would permanently close.

The proposed Wirreanda Road underpass would provide a direct connection with Mona Vale Road. It is intended to replace right-turn entry and exit movements at Tumburra Street, giving local traffic another route while reducing interruptions to through traffic.
Further east, the Powderworks Road intersection would be upgraded with greater capacity and new signals. About 80 metres of Powderworks Road east of Mona Vale Road would also undergo minor widening.
Bus, Walking And Wildlife Links Revised
The updated plans include changes for people using public and active transport along the corridor.
A shared-use path is proposed on the northern side of Mona Vale Road between Kanangra Avenue and Bahai Temple Way, while bus stops at the Kimbriki and Powderworks intersections would be relocated as part of the intersection works.
Wildlife movement is another focus of the design. A vegetated fauna overpass east of Kimbriki Road would cross Mona Vale Road and improve habitat connectivity between Garigal National Park and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.
A fauna underpass is also proposed, while the broader design seeks to reduce vegetation impacts where possible.
Other works would include upgraded street lighting along the project length, retaining walls or sandstone cuttings at various locations and landscaping.

Community Feedback Continues Before Environmental Review
Property acquisition has started and geotechnical investigations are continuing until late August 2026 to support design work.
Procurement is also underway, with an expression of interest for the design and construction contract released to the market in mid-2026.
The current consultation remains open until Tuesday, 1 September 2026, giving the community an opportunity to comment on the revised design and identify questions or concerns for the Review of Environmental Factors.
The review will assess potential impacts involving traffic, noise, biodiversity and heritage, along with measures proposed to manage them.
The Review of Environmental Factors is expected to go on public display in late 2026, providing a further opportunity for submissions.
Pending planning approvals, project determination, contract award and the anticipated start of construction are scheduled for 2027.
