Three members from Mona Vale SLSC have been recognised with National Medals, reflecting years of steady volunteer service that helped keep Mona Vale Beach safe and supported the wider Northern Beaches community.
Recognition Of Mona Vale SLSC Service
The honours were announced by Surf Life Saving Australia as part of a national awards round that recognised 212 surf lifesavers from clubs across Australia. From Mona Vale SLSC, Rodney Boss, Caroline Hjorth and Noel Moran were each named as National Medal recipients.

As a result, their inclusion confirms they met eligibility requirements under the Australian honours system for long and diligent service in roles involving risk to life and property. In turn, the recognition reflects service delivered through Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Club and its ongoing patrol operations on the Northern Beaches.
What The National Medal Recognises
The National Medal began in 1975 as part of the Commonwealth of Australia honours system. It recognises long service in operational roles involving risk.

Under guidelines set by Surf Life Saving Australia, recipients complete at least 15 years of active service with a minimum of 30 patrol or lifeguard hours each season. As a result, the rules stem from government regulation and apply across all eligible organisations, including surf lifesaving.
Mona Vale SLSC And Community Service
Over time, Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Club has built a record of coastal patrols, training, and community programs. Since the early 1920s, it has supported beach safety through volunteer patrols, rescues, and junior programs such as Nippers.
The National Medals awarded to Boss, Hjorth and Moran reflect service delivered through this local framework, where members commit time across many seasons to support safe swimming conditions at Mona Vale Beach.
Local Impact Of National Recognition
National Medals come through the Australian honours system but clubs usually present them at a local level. This approach keeps the recognition tied to the communities where the service happened.
For Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Club, the awards reflect decades of volunteer patrol work and steady service. They recognise long-term commitment and the experienced members who help keep beaches safe year after year.
